Introduction

CEO CEWales, Cat Griffith-Williams

“The important role of the built environment within the Welsh Foundational Economy and wider UK context, is best understood as part of a system of systems impacting sector business, projects and people. With the opportunity to achieve co-benefits with linked industries such as renewables and others.”

CEWales played a pivotal role in supporting Welsh Government to develop a Built Environment Mission Statement, published by the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning. The Mission Statement is action focused and informed by feedback from the built environment sector and provides important clarity of our shared ambition for the sector.

the Built environment Sector

The built environment sector is a significant contributor to the wider UK and Welsh economy through its direct and connected impact on economic, social and environmental factors. The sector is uniquely well-positioned to link government agendas across key policies including but not limited to Net Zero Wales, A Manufacturing Future for Wales and Circular Economy. Through its businesses, projects and people (skills), the sector is critical to the Welsh Government’s green growth agenda, contributing to net zero, circular economy principles, and supporting priority sectors like clean energy.

The sector is an integral part of the Wales Foundational Economy and is a key factor within the Welsh Economic Action Plan through its connection to place. It is an enabler of the well-being goals and ways of working found within the Well-Being of Future Generations Act.
