ReSource Wales are currently progressing a feasibility study, funded by the Welsh Government through the SMART Flexible Innovation Support (FIS) programme, to explore how surplus construction materials in Wales can be retained, reused and recycled rather than treated as waste.
Their mission is to explore the feasibility of transforming surplus construction materials in Wales from waste into value by creating an evidence-led, networked reuse and recycling system. Through real-time data, investigations into other similar initiatives, and stakeholder engagement, we will determine ways to enable safe, confident reuse of unused materials—cutting carbon, reducing costs, supporting communities, and embedding circular practices across the construction sector. By connecting builders, recyclers, and communities, the ultimate aim is to help Wales pioneer a resilient, low-carbon model of circular construction that delivers lasting economic, social, and environmental benefits.
ReSource Wales are inviting you to contribute to this project by completing a short questionnaire to help them understand:
- What types and quantities of surplus materials are currently generated.
- How organisations currently manage unused materials.
- What barriers prevent materials from being reused.
- What support, services or infrastructure may be needed.
- Whether organisations would be interested in participating in a future materials reuse network, physical hub or digital exchange platform.
Your time in completing this questionnaire would be very much appreciated (it should take 5-8 minutes). They need as much input from construction industry stakeholders as possible to help determine the best strategy for taking this study forward to develop a system that will benefit the whole industry as it strives to meet Net Zero Carbon goals.
