CLAW increase funding for training

The Consortium of Local Authorities in Wales (CLAW) represents the professional and technical interests of property and asset management across Welsh local government. Established in 1962, CLAW brings together elected members and officers from all 22 Welsh local authorities to promote excellence in the construction, maintenance and management of public sector property assets. By providing a collaborative forum, CLAW supports the sharing of best practice, encourages consistency across Wales, and helps strengthen the collective capability of local authority construction and property teams.

Following the Annual General Meeting held in December, David Powell was appointed Chair of the CLAW Leadership Board for the year ahead. The Leadership Board meets quarterly to coordinate the work programme of CLAW’s sub-groups and to support delivery of key activities throughout the year. This includes overseeing the CLAW Awards and the Annual Conference, which is planned for November 2026. These events provide an opportunity to recognise innovation and achievement across the sector, and to bring colleagues together to share learning and celebrate success.
CLAW also remains committed to supporting professional development. Alongside its annual energy and carbon reduction training, CLAW is funding NEC accredited training for local authority colleagues working within the construction sector. It is hoped that by expanding access to training across local authorities, CLAW can help promote greater consistency in the management and delivery of construction projects across Wales, supporting improved outcomes and value for money.

CLAW publishes updates and resources on its website, including information about its work and a list of past and present award winners. CLAW is also pleased to be working with Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEWales) again this year, who provide essential secretariat support to help coordinate CLAW’s activities.
