CEWales Newsletter February 2026

As we move through February, it’s already proving to be a busy and productive start to the year for CEWales.

Firstly, a reminder that the CEW Awards 2026 deadline for entries is today at 5pm. We would like to wish everyone entering the very best of luck and we look forward to receiving your submissions at awards@cewales.org.uk  The Awards are always a fantastic opportunity to showcase the strength, innovation and impact of our sector, and we can’t wait to see this year’s entries.

Over recent weeks, our team have been finalising a steel review for Welsh Government, delivered within the remit of CEWales’ formalised relationship with them. This report was developed in response to Welsh Government’s request for greater certainty around steel decision-making in the ongoing education programme. It reviews elements of the education construction supply chain, provides an overview of current market conditions, and highlights key market drivers. It also reflects and responds to the broader conversation underway in Wales and the UK about the future of our steel sector, including recent calls from industry and government figures alike for urgent action and support to underpin the long-term future of steelmaking and supply chain resilience. Thank you to our members who took the time to provide information to feed into the report. The First Minister of Wales, Eluned Morgan, has issued a strong call for urgent UK Government action to support the steel industry in Wales, during a period of significant pressure, see the full statement here

Our next Industry Group meeting takes place next Tuesday online and it will include an update on Pipelines and taking forward the Mission Statement. If you are a CEWales member and would like to attend, please email info@cewales.org.uk

We are also preparing for the new membership year commencing 1st April. We very much hope all our current members will renew, and we thank you sincerely for your continued support. Over the past two years, we have embedded a more formalised and structured relationship with Welsh Government. Throughout this time, we have relied on our members to provide specialist construction expertise and real-time market intelligence, enabling us to feed informed policy recommendations directly to Welsh Ministers. Together, we have strengthened the quality of engagement between Government and the sector during what continues to be a challenging economic climate. We will be in touch over the coming weeks, emailing each member individually.

Finally, don’t forget our Summit taking place on 18th March in Cardiff, details can be found here  We have an excellent line-up of speakers, alongside a facilitated discussion and workshop on policy, strategy, digital change and governance delivered by The Pollen Shop. We will also be holding our North Wales Summit in early May, with the confirmed date to follow very soon.

Thank you, as always, for your continued engagement and commitment to supporting the Welsh construction sector.
