CEWales December Newsletter

As we reflect on the past year, we want to extend our sincere thanks for your continued commitment, insight and collaboration. The Welsh Built Environment sector stands at a pivotal moment. Like many parts of our economy, we face global and local headwinds, yet the role our sector plays in supporting prosperity, shaping sustainable communities, and developing the next generation of skilled professionals has never been more critical.

At Constructing Excellence in Wales, we have been proud to represent your ambitions and concerns. This year, we have worked tirelessly to strengthen the industry’s voice and ensure Welsh Government recognises that every pound invested in our sector is not only a driver of GDP, but a catalyst for inclusive growth and long-term value for Wales.

The impact of our sector is undeniable. In 2023 alone, construction generated £17.2 billion in economic activity of which was 10% of Wales’s total, and supported more than 83,000 jobs. Behind these figures are people whose careers, skills, and futures depend on a strong and resilient built environment. That is why this year we have championed a focus on social mobility, recognising that construction does far more than deliver buildings. Construction creates opportunities, builds confidence, and strengthens communities.

Thank you for everything you have contributed, your innovation, your expertise, and your willingness to collaborate are what make this sector so powerful.

We launched our Annual Report: Creating Futures – Building Opportunity and Driving the Economy at the Senedd which sets out a value based path for the Welsh built environment and showcases the breadth of our work in 2025:

  • The Insight and intelligence reports shared with Welsh Government.
  • Built Environment Mission Statement and Digital Action Plan for Wales.
  • Greater transparency and accessibility to project pipelines.
  • Increased engagement on socially responsible procurement.
  • An independent review of Project Bank Accounts.
  • Embedding foundational economy principles within the WG Construction Forum.
  • Driving opportunities for the built environment in circular economy principles.

I can also share with you that we are delighted to launch our new website, a much more, user-friendly and reflective version of our modern, progressive and forward thinking CEWales. Please do check it out!

This is just a snapshot. Please take a look at the annual report and see for yourself the scale of what we’ve achieved.

As we look ahead to next year, we are excited to continue building momentum with you. We encourage all our members to get more involved with CEWales, by joining our events, engaging with our Best Practice Clubs, participating in our steering groups, and by encouraging your wider supply chain to get involved. Together, we can strengthen our collective voice and drive meaningful change across the Welsh built environment.

If you would like more information on any of these opportunities or our priorities for the year ahead, please let us know, we would be delighted to share more.
