Can you support creating an outdoor safe haven in Newport?
Business in the Community (BITC), The Prince’s Responsible Business Network, established the Newport Place programme in October 2022. The first of its kind in Wales, BITC’s Newport Place programme will bring together residents, stakeholders and businesses to address inequalities in Newport with the aim of supporting the community through business action. Professor Simon Gibson CBE, Newport Place Chairperson said:
“We are entering into a challenging and exciting time for the city. However, with clear and common objectives, there should be no competition in building community within the city. The opportunity to create that consensus and work together to enhance the city of Newport is exciting.
“Establishing Business in the Community’s Place programme in Newport provides the perfect opportunity to enhance the great work already happening in communities, whilst focussing on new ideas and innovation that will mobilise people, ideas and passion in Newport.
“I am eager to work alongside a wide range of stakeholders and partners who are equally motivated to developing the city, making it a place people will want to live, visit and work.”
One of the early initiatives aims to support members of the community visiting Edengate, who work with people who are homeless. We are aiming to create an outdoor safe haven for guests at Edengate’s community facility in Pillgwenlly, Newport. Linklaters are thinking local through a funding contribution to renovate and landscape a small front garden, and Dŵr Cymru are evaluating the development of a rear garden.
However, we are looking for a company that might be in a position to contribute the use of digging/excavation equipment that will allow the project to get underway. If your business can help, please reach out to Adele Harries-Nicholas at adele.harries-nicholas@bitc.org.uk .
