Pentre Awel Achieves Net Zero
We held an excellent South West Wales Best Practice event with BOUYGUES UK last Thursday. They are nearing completion of Pentre Awel, awarded under SWWRCF for Carmarthenshire County Council.
As one of the highest value schemes being delivered in South West Wales, the team were proactive in ensuring an ambitious Social Value Strategy was in place to meet Carmarthenshire's requirements and also ensuring the project created meaningful social value outcomes for the local community and wider South West Wales region.
They have also reached net zero on the construction of Zone 1!
Over the past 24 months on site, the team has made some incredible achievements:
Reduced direct emissions by 90%
Cut waste, energy, and water consumption by 10%
Saved 450+ tonnes of carbon emissions
Initiatives like adopting HVO fuel and sourcing recycled materials have made this project the first ever BOUYGUES UK site to claim this accolade!
Peter Sharpe, Project Director at Pentre Awel, said of achieving net zero: "We are immensely proud of this achievement. As well as building a state of the art, top quality facility, as a project team we set our minds to reducing as much of our carbon emissions as possible. We set out a plan and I’m so pleased to say that we have achieved it. This would not have happened had it not been for the determination and support of not only the BOUYGUES UK staff here at Pentre Awel, but also our amazing sub-contractors and supply chain partners who came with us on this net zero journey."
The team's dedication to sustainable construction at Pentre Awel has set a benchmark for success and thanks to the reduction in emissions from the use of HVO on the project, BOUYGUES UK has made the commitment that all of its building sites across the UK will be powered by HVO.
Thank you to all involved for inviting us and sharing your achievements in this very impressive project. Donna Griffiths Peter Sharpe Nina Williams
