Electrical Contractors Association

The largest and oldest electrical trade association in the UK, the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA), last month hosted a Roundtable to discuss its Recharging Electrical Skills in Wales Charter.

Joined by representatives from Welsh Government, education providers and industry stakeholders, the Roundtable provided an opportunity for all attendees to ask searching questions about the topic. It helped to create a broader and deeper partnership between stakeholders. Cat Griffith-Williams from Constructing Excellence in Wales attended the event and commented afterwards:

“The Charter provides a focal point for all concerned to find constructive solutions to the electrical skills shortage in Wales. It was a privilege to hear the varying perspectives and the genuine support for ECA’s imitative. I look forward to the launch of the final version in the Senedd.”

The headline asks of the Charter are:

1)    To put electricians at the heart of net zero

2)    Boost the size and quality of electrotechnical apprenticeship provision.

3)    And create closer collaboration for a stronger skills pipeline.

The Charter will be formally launched in the Senedd in November, with the aim of attracting wide political interest.

ECA represents hundreds of businesses in Wales, and nearly 3,000 Member firms across the UK with an annual revenue in excess of £6 billion.
