Construction Digital Action Plan in Wales – Activity Mapping, Study and Future Scoping
Welsh Government published its Digital Strategy for Wales in 2021 which brought refreshed focus to the prioritisation of Digital to all facets of society in Wales. Following the recently successful exercise in the Agricultural sector which produced the Agri-tech action plan, the construction industry has been identified as a priority sector that will benefit significantly from increased digital adoption and innovation.
Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) has been instructed to provide research, development and creation of a Digital Action Plan for Construction in Wales. We will be working with NIMA Wales to deliver the project. We are seeking expressions of interest (info@cewales.org.uk) to provide the following and be engaged with the project:
1. Undertake desk-based research to present drivers, legislative and regulatory requirements as they may relate to the deployment and provision of construction sector focussed digital technologies such as BIM, Digital Twins, Cyber Security/Resilience, and other relevant technologies.
2. Map/collate information relating to existing levels of digital maturity/adoption in the construction sector in Wales and initiatives or activities by industry or other stakeholders that promote and support digital adoption in the construction sector.
3. Present examples of best-in-class deployment or working practices of UK and international deployments of digital construction technologies relevant to the Welsh construction industry. This is also to include examples of any academic expertise Wales may have in the field.
4. Host and coordinate a series of workshops with key stakeholders to explore and identify major challenges, priorities, barriers, and opportunities to the adoption of construction focussed technologies and identify early priorities to inform foundations for a Digital Construction Action Plan for Wales.
5. Produce a report that captures all of the above and includes draft Digital Action Plan for Construction which includes priorities for the sector as they relate to digital deployment and adoption and possible/proposed initiatives to bring about change.
This digital strategy remains a strong priority for the Government and this piece of work represents a timely next step to the prioritisation of Digital to all facets of society in Wales.
Many thanks
