CLAW/CEW BIM Toolkit for Clients Client Training and Supplier Awareness Sessions – Cardiff

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is increasingly becoming a standard and integral part of the construction process. The UK Government has mandated BIM level 2 on all its projects from 2016 and the Welsh Government has endorsed the approach following the launch of the Wales Construction Procurement Strategy in 2013.
Whilst many in the supply chain have been exploring the benefits of BIM, client leadership is recognised as a key driver in moving the BIM agenda forward in Wales. This is why the Consortium of Local Authorities in Wales (CLAW) and Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) have developed a BIM Toolkit for Clients. This will ensure that public sector clients in Wales are able to specify their BIM requirements in a consistent fashion which should make the process of engagement simpler for the supply chain.
The toolkit has now been web-based for ease of use and navigation and it is our intention to hold three separate training and awareness sessions across Wales to ensure that CLAW members are able to apply the toolkit to their current and future projects and that suppliers are aware and can align themselves with these requirements.
Each session will comprise a full morning of briefings and instructions with references to case studies. These will be open to CLAW members only. However, in the afternoon, awareness sessions will be open to other clients and industry suppliers so they can become more familiar with the way Welsh public sector clients will specify BIM requirements in future.
Who should attend :
CLAW Members – to understand how the Toolkit will support CLAW member organisations in specifying their BIM requirements to their supply chains
Other clients – to understand how the Toolkit could support their organisations in specifying their BIM requirements to their supply chains
Suppliers – to understand how CLAW member organisations will be specifying their BIM requirements in future so that they can prepare their organisations for future projects. This will be particularly relevant to existing and prospective local authority framework contractors and consultants.
