Willis Construction 40 Years of Building A Brighter Tomorrow

Willis Construction has celebrated its 40th anniversary, bringing together the people who have helped shape the South Wales contractor over four decades. Employees past and present joined clients, consultants, supply chain partners, family and friends at Cardiff’s Parkgate Hotel on Saturday 19th September for an evening that celebrated not only 40 years in business, but the people, relationships and friendships behind the Willis story.

Founded by Gareth Williams in 1986, Willis Construction has grown from one man and a van into an established contractor operating across Affordable Housing, Construction Projects and Insurance Repairs. While much has changed during those four decades, the anniversary celebration returned to something that has remained constant – the importance of the people behind the business.

Hosted by Geraint Hardy, the celebration included staff recognition, a three-course dinner, comedy from Cardiff’s Leroy Brito, a charity raffle and auction, and live entertainment. Guests helped raise over £4000 for Llanrumney Hall Community Trust, supporting the work of the community-led organisation from its multi-purpose hub in East Cardiff. Which Gareth Williams personally offered to match, taking the figure to over £8000.

Founder and Chairman Gareth Williams said: “When Willis Construction started in 1986, the focus was simple: do a good job and build a strong reputation. Forty years later, what stands out is not just the projects we have delivered, but the people, relationships and friendships that have shaped Willis along the way.

“I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has played a part – our team, clients, consultants, supply chain, partners, family and friends. This milestone belongs to all of those people who have been part of our journey.”

Willis now looks to the future. Following transition to an Employee Ownership Trust in 2025, its employees collectively benefit from the success of the company they help shape. The move has created a structure designed to protect Willis Construction’s independence, culture and values for the long term, while giving its employees a greater stake in its future.

Managing Director Rhys Ford said: “Taking on the role of Managing Director of a business with 40 years of history brings a great sense of responsibility, but also real excitement for what lies ahead. “Willis has strong foundations – its people, reputation and relationships, built over many years. My role is not to change what has made the business successful, but to build on it; evolving, creating new opportunities and ensuring Willis remains a business our employees, clients and partners want to be part of. “We have a brilliant team, a strong pipeline and considered plans for the years ahead. Forty years is an incredible milestone, but it also marks the beginning of our next chapter.”

Forty years of growth and passion have brought Willis Construction to this milestone. Across all three divisions, the business enters its fifth decade with a clear direction and a continued commitment to Building a Brighter Tomorrow.
